What You Can Do
Give voice to the voiceless!
Write a letter to the Minister of Agriculture, your MP, and the Prime Minister urging them to take steps to create stronger legislation governing the welfare of animals during transport. Writing letters is an excellent way to have your voice heard and to put direct pressure on the government to make change. Animals can't demand change, but you can!
Politicians may seem inaccessible but we have the resources to make ourselves and our views know to them. This is our right! Sometimes one letter can make all the difference. Write your letter now!
Go public!
Write a letter to the editor of your local newspaper in response to an article dealing with any aspect of animals raised for food. Writing a letter to the editor gives you a chance to get your message to thousands, even millions of people, that an animal's journey from the farm to the slaughterhouse and eventually to their plates, is a horrific, pain filled experience. Urge fellow citizens to take responsibility and take action!
The printing press is one of the most important tools of democracy as it facilitates the spread of information. Though mainstream media is biased you can help balance the media's messages with your opinions. Helping educate the public helps the animals. Write your letter now!
For the truly inspired. . .
Write an Opinion Editoral (op-ed) If you want to expand upon your message regarding the suffering of animals being transported to slaughterhouses, take your thoughts to the press in the form of a comprehensive article.
An op-ed article is anywhere between 500-800 words. Writing an article allows you to present your opinion in detail, develop your argument, present any research you might have done, and propose a solution. Contact information and writing guidelines are usually available on newspaper websites.
Speak your mind on call-in shows. TV and Radio call-in shows are becoming increasingly popular. Be a rabble rouser on air!
Though there will be few call-in shows specifically focussing on animal rights you can often find an opportunity to link animal rights issues to the chosen theme. For example, if a show is focussing on an environmental issue, you could raise the issue of the pollution produced by transport vehicles while transporting animals across the country.
Make the world face the facts!
Order live video footage. Nothing is more eye-opening than video footage of animals being beaten during loading and unloading from trucks, downed animals being dragged from trucks with chains; chickens being grabbed by wings and legs and crammed, one on top of the other, into crates; animals emerging from trucks half dead from starvation, dehydration, freezing or overheating. The list of atrocoties goes on and on and we have the evidence!

Compassionate Lifestyle
Few people realize the far-reaching environmental, health and ethical implications of the choices that they make every day. Who would have thought that a simple hamburger could have political and environmental repercussions felt around the world! Or that the shampoo you use could have been tested on thousands of animals.
